About Me

My photo
Hello, I'm Bearnard (a.k.a. Bernie) B. Behr. I travel around the United States with my human Gary, who is a professional tour guide for California Sunriders motorcycle tours. We both come from Conifer, Colorado, a nice little town in the Rocky Mountains. We travel all over the country finding beautiful places and meeting all sorts of people from around the world. I keep Gary from getting in trouble and help him keep the guests on his tours happy, not an easy job! We have a lot of fun together and see a lot of really great places, and since Gary is a professional photographer too, we have some great pictures too (usually starring yours truly). Gary also likes to write a lot, (he's a little long-winded but tells a good story) so there's usually a lot to read. It's a good thing too, I can't type very well with these paws, so I'll have Gary do most of the writing. Keep coming back and enjoy the blog. Feel free to post a comment or make suggestions (like how to keep these crazy humans in line!) and we look forward to reading them. Sincerely, Bearnard B. Behr And Gary Fleshman

Still wasting time in England…and having a great time!

After stopping to see the symbols the crazy humans have carved in the hills, we got back on the road to see some more of the local area's attractions. We drove around for a bit down really pretty country roads to a really old castle on top of a hill. Old Wardour Castle, where parts of " Robin Hood Prince of thieves" was filmed. A really unusual 5 sided design makes the castle one of a kind, and the grounds are very well looked after. But unfortunately we were there during the slow season so the grounds were closed. So we were only able to walk around the outside, but very pretty and surrounded by nice woods, almost like being back home in the mountains!

It's a very pretty place, too bad we couldn't get inside for a better look around!

I can see why they used it in the movie.
Maybe we'll get a chance to see it better if we go back next year!
After our brief stop to look at the neat castle we continued on our way to a local landmark, Gold Hill in Shaftesbury, Dorset!

It Doesn't look like it from here but it's quite a steep road!

After our brief stop to look at the neat castle we continued on our way to a local landmark, Gold Hill in Shaftesbury, Dorset! This is where the Hovis bread company filmed one of the most popular commercials in English television history. In the commercial it's supposed to be somewhere in Northern England, but in fact it's in the very southern part of England. Just another example of how these silly humans make one place look like another. Here's the Commercial, so you know what I'm talking about.

So after we walked around a bit we stopped at the top of the hill to have a lovely Cream Tea in a nice little cafe at the top of the road, Delicious! After our little snack it was back to the car and off to another local landmark.

Salisbury Cathedral!

It's a very neat place to visit, and the home to one of the last remaining copies of the Magna Carta. We spent a while walking around the interior, looking at all the beautiful art and all the history everywhere. Gary was really interested in seeing that Magna Carta thing, and spent a lot of time looking at it and trying to read it (his Latin wasn't as good as it was when he was in college)!

It's a really beautiful place to walk around, and you can't really get an idea of how big it really is on the inside from the pictures Gary took. He did try however, but there was so much we just didn't have the time to see everything and take pictures too.

This place was really huge!

After our walk around the cathedral and the grounds, we walked around the city center until it was time to meet everyone else from previous tours for a dinner and a well deserved pint of great English Beer. Well that's about all for now, Gary is complaining about having to do all the typing while I just sit here and dictate! We'll continue the rest of the story soon!
